Assignment 3 - Types of funding - PAB

Funding:

Public Funding: From National and regional funding bodies: distribution of funding through grants and contracts, monitoring the implementation of the funding.

Private funding: Funding from individuals, benefactors and or businesses.

Private -
  • Match Funding - matching price - like the price promise
  • Crowdfunding - raising money as a crowd.
  • Revenue - ticket sales, merchandise sales.
  • Advertising
  • Personal Funding/Own Contribution
  • In Kind - when you are allowed to use something or somewhere of value for free or for a deal.
  • Sponsorship
  • JustGiving pages

Public -
  • Arts Council Funding
  • Local Authority
  • Lottery Funding

Private funding is always more reliable when in relation to theatre productions and companys. They are lot more direct and personal and allow you to take more control over the funding you are seeking and not just leave a council in charge of it which may get lost through motion or make some sort of catch for it, so it a lot easier to look into receiving a funding of sorts. Public funding can work but it is very un reliable the majority of the time and a lot slower as will exa part of a bigger organisation that has more things to deal with and can just push your appeal to the side, so its more efficient to work with private funding if you can as you can support yourself and even do arrangements such as In Kind or crowdfunding which makes you very independent as a company or group.

In Kind -

In kind is when payments don't always have to be made with cash payments but with good services of deals between you and the other person, usually these occur between transactions of people who know one another doing them a favour such as being able to use studio space army dance school for a discounted price and sometimes free as they know me and therefore in kind. Its very much a deal making process and a who you know situation but works very well for new businesses and companies and is an affective process for local companies and societies. So to have funding in Kind would be in a situation such as if its a local shop they will give you funding if you advertise their shop in our programme or if they're a close friend just if we put their logo up in the theatre/sell their products.
